Why "Day Six Pix" instead of "John Hartleroad Photography" or something like that?
Well, I'm inspired by Eugene Peterson's account of the Biblical story of Creation in
The Message:
"God looked over everything he had made: it was so good, so very good! It was evening, it was morning---Day Six." Genesis 1:31
My photography is an appreciation of all these days beyond Day Six. I first experienced the wonder of photography as a college sophomore when a friend showed me how to process black and white film and then to make my very first print. I vividly recall the wonder of that experience. While I could now be classified as an amateur, I have been a professional in the past, having worked for a weekly newspaper, a studio, and an advertising agency. I have studied with several nationally known photographers, including Byron Jorjorian, Jim Clark, John Shaw and Rod Planck. I have been a juried artist of the
Prairie Art Alliance in Springfield, Illinois, and a member of
NANPA, the North American Nature Photographers Association. Currently, I am a member of the Brentwood (Tennessee) Photography Group.
